HD News Meetings

2022 Archive

Current meeting notes are available here.

30-Dec-2022

No HD News Meeting today as I am unavailable.

I am working on finishing up the End of Early Access Update, Modify Support and the Modules System for the Legacy Series.
I very much would have liked to have all of that complete within 2022.
Unfortunately that did not happen. I am aiming for early 2023 to have it all ready for extensive testing.

Thank you for all of the feedback and excitement about the APSE Presentation.
If you have further ideas or questions feel free to fill out the Suggestions Form or send an IM to Lares Carter.

There will be some changes for the Meeting schedule for 2023. We will no longer have weekly meetings.
For 2023 the HD News Meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of each Month at Noon Pacific Time.
The location will stay the same: the News Meeting Platform in SkyBeam above the HD Store.
If I happen to be unavailable then the meeting will be moved to the next available Wednesday.
I'll see how that works out and then adjust the schedule and details as needed.

Thank you for your continued patience while I work diligently on my vision for the Legacy Series.
And thank you for all the support and feedback.

Happy New Year!
- Lares

17-Dec-2022

HD Presentation at the APSE 2021

Part I - State of the Legacy Pumper

There are still several updates left on the list in order to finish the Early Access phase.
In order to speed up the development all of the remaining updates will be bundled into a single "Super Update".

This Super Update will contain:

- the Emergency Lights HUD
HUD to adjust each Lightbar, Flasher and Beacon Color and Pattern
an early preview was shown at one of the previous News Meetings

- Theme Box Support
compatibility with a new version of the HD Theme Box
new save and load feature for customization settings and vehicle options
this will make updating vehicles a lot less painful

- Modular HUD support for the Officer
access to a sub-section of the driver Modular HUD controls for the Officer

- improved and newly added Sounds
better looping engine sounds
adds missings sounds like roll up doors, engine brake, primer handle, etc.

- Modify Support
adds modify permission to mesh assets (scripts excluded)
includes all necessary script changes to make sure scripts keep working after removing or adding prims

- fully functional Tablet

- 3D Model, LoD and Texture Improvements

- Land Impact Optimizations

I am in the middle of working on that Super Update.
I very much would have liked to have all of that work done and celebrate the end of the Early Access at the APSE.
However that has not happened due to RL. I do not want to go into any of the details but I have been working on this every free minute.
I already have made a lot of progress but there is still more to get done.

HD Legacy Pumper Update
Legacy Pumper Update Picture (taken on 17-Dec-2022; work in progress)

Land Impact has been reduced from 83 to 67 - that's an improvement of 20%!
Also the Level of Detail (LoD) model for the pump and hosebed cover have been greatly improved.

Cab:
– the SCBA Seats have been updated and now feature a lot more detail
– better textures for the gas and brake pedal and new Airhorn and Q-Siren pedals
– some of the switches have been rearranged and three switches for auxiliary functions have been added
– the door hinges have been changed to light metal instead of dark gray

Pump:
– new GPM readouts with full 4 digit precision (the previous readouts would start rounding for higher values)
– indicator lights for the status of the various control panels
– adjustable drafting GPM step size for finer control

Body:
– adjustable ladder color
– optional suction hose on driver and officer side
– adjustable suction hose color
– improved rear emergency light mounts

There are some more changes which will become clear after Part II.

Part II - Legacy Tanker & Legacy Mod

I have implemented a couple of changes to the body in order to make it more Tanker and less Tanker Pumper.

The main adjustment was to lower both sides of the body with the cabinets.
The L1 & R1 compartment are no longer connected to make more space for the water tank.
The discharges have been removed from the hosebed.
And there is a new cab and pump for the Legacy Tanker.

HD Legacy Tanker Preview

Legacy Tanker Preview Picture (taken on 17-Dec-2022; work in progress)

The modify support for the Legacy Series also includes making the main parts of the vehicle modular.
There will be an easy to use system to mix and match the main parts of the two vehicles shown here.

There are three main modules: Cab, Pump and Body.
And then three sub-modules: Front Bumper, Deckgun and rear Emergency Lights.
Additional modules could be added to the system in the future.

The new modules:
- Short Bumper
- Short Cab
- Top Mount Pump
- Smoothbore Deckgun with stacked Tips
- Tanker Body
- Lightbar Pods

All of those new modules will be available as standalone items.
For example you can buy just the Tanker Body module in order to convert your Legacy Pumper into a Tanker.
Or you can buy only the Short Cab if you want to give your Pumper a new look.

A fully interactive live demo of this Modules System is available at the HD Booth at the APSE.
(Demo is currently out of order, will get it fixed ASAP)

Part III - Questions & Answers

If you have a question that has not been covered yet then please feel free to IM Lares Carter.

Q: Any news on Ladder Trucks?
A: The Midmount will be available as Module some time after the Tanker.

Q: Will the existing HUDs work with the new Modules?
A: They will require some adjustments.
For example the Modular HUD will need the new AUX buttons added and the step function for the drafting.
The Customize HUD will also need some adjustments to work with the modify support.

Q: Will creators be able to make their own things to add as a module?
A: I don't think there will be an easy way to make an entire cab or pump that would be fully functional.
For that there would need to be some kind of special development kit so that you would have the required control elements (switches, buttons, etc.) available.
Or if you'd supply that yourself then there would need to be an API for all of the script communication.
So that's more complex and later down the road. Standalone items and addons will be possible.
I got an API planned for that so that you could make for example a kit of antennas for the roof of the cab.
And then sell that and then it would automatically move to the right position similar to how it's done on the Paladin.
But it would work more like an attachment spot so that it would move together with the cab when it is being lifted for example.

Q: Will there be mod support and/or a volume based system for after market water tank capacity mods?
A: Wanter tank size will be supplied by the Body Module. It'll be adjustable similar to what is currently on the Legacy Pumper.

Q: Will it be possible to add the modules to other brands of vehicles and have them still operate as expected?
A: I don't think they would operate as expected.
There is no established standard for internal vehicle communication across all brands and different brands have implemented different features.
It would require a lot of tinkering and most likely custom solutions for each vehicle.
At least currently I can't think of an easy system that would just work as link and go when mixing brands.

Q: Any plans for the HD Emergency Vehicles that Have GTFO Ready? in Civilian Variant?
A: I currently have no plans for Civilian Vehicles.
The Modules System as shown here could be expanded with Public Works Type vehicles.
Like a flatbed body that could be GTFO enabled, yes.

Q: Will there ever be a Legacy Series Heavy Rescue?
A: Ever? Yes. If you have ideas for modules you can submit them here.

Q: Release date for the Modules or Tanker?
A: No fixed ETA yet. I very very much would have liked to have all this done by now.
I'll need a short break after the APSE but then I'll be pushing as hard as I can to get the Legacy Pumper out of Early Access.
That Update will include the Modules system. Just RL is getting a bit in the way. I hope you understand.

Q: Are there plans to allow for Cab and Chassis only?
A: Yes.

Q: Is there any way that we can change the body from it being a 2 man crew to a 6 man crew for the Tanker?
A: Yes, certainly. There no longer is a Legacy Tanker as single vehicle.
The Short Cab, Top Mount Pump and Tanker Body shown here will all be released as independent items.
And you can add whichever part you want to your Legacy Series Vehicle.

Q: Is the Seats on the Trucks able to work with the Sombre SCBA?
A: I am not sure if there is any special support required. I have not checked the clearances yet other than for the HD SCBA.
If it doesn't fit then report it as bug and I'll get it adjusted.

Q: Will we be able to mount the modules on non-HD trucks like Lusch?
A: Possible. It'll most likely be a try and see experience.
I'll supply support to the best of my abilities but I don't think it'll be possible to have everything work with everything straight out of the box.
Some tinkering might be required.

Q: So there is a kit we can buy to make the pumper into a tanker?
A: Yes, exactly that.

Q: Will we be able to make modular after-market add-on products for this?
A: Generally speaking, yes. We would need to go over the details based on your requirements and see if it's possible to make it work.

Q: Will it use an API for recieving water from 3rd party sources?
A: Possibly. Would need to go over the details together and see if we can work something out.

Q: Will there be different lightbars available so you can have different styles?
A: Yes. Lightbars would be a Sub-Module that would attach to the cab and move with the cab when lifted.

Q: Any ETA on the tanker module?
A: No fixed ETA. Shortly after Legacy Pumper Full Release.

Q: You said something about and engine model has changed but more would be explained with the tanker.
Do you have any features for the engine aspect, like you do with the battery system ex; changing batteries etc?

A: The transition from Part I to Part II was that the additional changes on the Legacy Pumper would become more clear with the Tanker part.
Those changes are the Modular System.

Q: Will buying the full tanker give us access to mix and match parts for both? Or will we still need to buy the individual sections?
A: There won't be a full tanker. Each part will be released as individual Module.

Q: Any plans for a rear mount ladder after the mid mount?
A: No concrete plans or work started yet on that. But it's a pretty popular suggestion and safe bet that there will be a rear mount ladder Module in the future.

Q: Will the new ladder come with another cab variation? flat top 4-door?
A: The Tanker as shown here was just to introduce the idea of the Modules.
For additional releases I won't wait to have a Cab, Pump and Body together as set.
The Midmount Tower Ladder would be released as Module without the Cab. That will also help to speed up projects.

Q: When will the tanker be out for early access purchase?
A: No more Early Access projects. I am as tired about that as you guys are. Aside of that no fixed ETA for release date yet.

Q: Will there be a Flat Top Cab?
A: If it's popular. Make sure to submit your Module suggestions: here.

Q: Will your pump scripts ever add the ability to boost output of a scene engine by pumping through it with a hydrant engine?
A: That's already possible. Incoming pressurized water sources increase the pump limit.
There was a bug on the Legacy Pumper where that wasn't working for some time but that has been fixed in the current released EA version.
However the achieved boost won't be higher than having the hydrant supply the scene engine directly.

Q: About the foam containers and jugs: can we have the big foam containers also mod, so that we can use the same truck for an arff and the normal pumpers?
A: The older foam containers were just kept alive to maintain what was previously available.
For all purposes the new jugs are the preferred method for refilling. They are compatible with all HD Vehicles.
I think for the ARFF there was a refill bug with the jugs but that has been fixed and is live.

Q: What is the max water capacity on the tanker module?
A: Current spec is 2000 to 3000 US gallons.

Q: How will this work for people who own the Legacy already?
A: The end of early access update of the Legacy Pumper will include the Modules compatibility.
Then you could buy for example the Tanker Body and add that to your Legacy Pumper to make it a Tanker.

Q: How will updates be pushed to owners of Legacy vehicles that are currently considered to be a "unit?"
Will the modular components that constitutes those older vehicle versions be sent individually so that the unit can be re-assembled in modern modules?
A: Updated modules will be sent out on their own and can be used to replace the outdated module on the existing unit.
I will do my best to create that process in the least annoying way possible.

Q: Any word on aerial/boom units?
A: No fixed plans yet. Make sure to submit your Module suggestions here.

Q: Will there be a new electric truck so we don't have to use gas and make pollution?
A: That would be interesting. Make sure to submit your Module suggestions here.

Q: How soon could we have a cab and Chassis only varient?
A: Once the Legacy Pumper Update is live you should be able to remove the Pump and Body in order to create that variant.

Q: Why not release current mid mount tower non-pump for current use. While working on modules?
A: The Midmount is not complete yet. Also modules compatible Midmount will require different scripts.
It'll be a lot faster to just make one Midmount instead of releasing it and then re-releaing it as Modules compatible.

Q: Will the gear inside the body be fully modular? Like individual parts so we can add two or more of the same equipment type? (for example 15 chainsaws)
A: It'll be possible to remove all the gear and then add your own or re-arrange the sets of HD Gear.
Putting individual gear pieces will increase the Land Impact by a lot.

Hydrant CE Bugfix

The auto-fix option for the Hydrant CE is not working properly.
I got a bugfix ready but was waiting with the release for a bit to see if any other issues show up.
So far nothing else has been reported.
The bugfix will be released this upcoming week.

Attack Monitor

Nothing new on the Attack Monitor.
Scripting the ability to move it while a hose is connected is complicated.
It would require a few changes to the way the Hose System works.
I did not tackle that issue and decided to give the Legacy Pumper full priority instead.

HD will have a booth and presentation at the event.

16-Sep-2022

Foam Eductor Beta Testing

The new beta did not produce any more bug reports.
However I did decide to add one more feature which I think makes it overall more useful and easier to handle: an item giver.
It's a modify enabled copy of the Eductor which can be linked to vehicles.
When clicked it'll offer a copy of the Eductor which can then be placed on the ground and used as normal.
This requires some 3D model, UV mapping and texture changes to produce a stored version of the Eductor.
I got all of the 3D model and UV mapping changes done. Still working on the texture for it.
Once that is done there is some script code to write to integrate it with the Gear HUD.
But I think overall it's well worth it as it improves it a lot.

Legacy Pump HUD Beta Testing

The beta testing has been going pretty well.

Only 2 issues have been reported:
1) a typo in the low foam warning in local chat. It states fuel instead of foam. Easy fix.
2) the pump limit indicator on the HUD does not sync right after a shutdown.
- this one required some more digging but was also easy to fix once I found the spot where it goes wrong in the script.

I was about to send out a new beta with those fixes just before the meeting but then I stumbled across a 3rd bug.
3) Teleporting or logging out while the Pump HUD is open leads to some odd results.
- I got a good idea on where that is going wrong. The fix for it is a bit more complicated.

The new beta version will go out to all volunteers once that 3rd bug has been fixed.

Attack Monitor Development

Not much to report, still working on finishing the scripts for it.

Hydrant CE Bugfixes

The update was supposed to go out this week but I did not get to it.
The update will now go out this upcoming week.

09-Sep-2022

Foam Eductor Beta Testing

The remaining hose issues have been resolved.
The automatic hose shortening will no longer apply if it would result in disconnecting the Eductor.
A new beta version has been sent out today (09-Sep-2022).
The release date will depend on how the testing goes.

Legacy Pump HUD Beta Testing

The internal testing has discovered a lot of bugs.
All of those issues have been fixed.
Additionally some issues have been discovered that are also present on the Legacy Pumper [v2022.08.01].

Overview of newly discovered v2022.08.01 bugs:
- the INC / DEC buttons for the bumper trashline and the two rear discharges would not always work right
- the pump limit boost for incoming pressurized water sources was no longer applied in the pump script
- the Restock All feature in the menu was not working right for the Cable Reel with the Junction Box
- the Info Center warnings for Low Water, Low Foam and Low Fuel were no longer working
- it's possible to switch gears with page up / page down keys while the engine is turned off
- using the deckgun controls while the automated deploy / stow is active would lead to some odd results
- the pump panel access checks for connected hose lines would no longer work
- connected gated wyes would fail to update the pump panel GPM readouts in some cases

A beta version has been sent out to some of the Legacy Pumper testing volunteers today (09-Sep-2022).
The release date will depend on how the testing goes.

Attack Monitor Development

The Attack Monitor was shown a long time ago.
It's a smaller version of the popular HD Ground Monitors.
It works with a small Supply Line and has a lower flow of water.
It will have an oscillation feature that lets it sweep an area with water while unmanned.

The Attack Monitor lay dormant waiting for some changes to the HD Fire to enable ray cast support.
Those fire changes were released together with the Marine 1 Update.
I took some time this week to check what needs to be done to finish the Attack Monitor.
I am currently working on getting those things done and then getting it ready for beta testing.

Things to get done:
- fix some minor texture errors
- oscillation feature with raycast fire suppression
- add compatibility for variable foam injection rate from Legacy Pumper
- ability to move monitor while connected to supply line (experimental, might not work)
- lots of scripting

I do not have an ETA yet on when it will be available for beta testing.
Once done it will be sold as a standalone item.

Hydrant CE Bugfixes

No additional issues have been reported with the latest beta version.
The update should be available this upcoming week.

02-Sep-2022

No in-world meeting as Lares is unavailable.

Foam Eductor Beta Testing

Additional issues with the hose connection were discovered during the beta testing.
Still working on investigating and resolving those new issues.
New beta version should be available this upcoming week.

Legacy Pump HUD Development

Work on the Pump HUD is complete.
Internal Beta Testing started on Thursday (01-Sep-2022).
A few issues have been reported and some of them have already been resolved.
The first beta version for the volunteers will be available this upcoming week.
Release date for the update will depend on how the testing goes.

Hydrant CE Bugfixes

The bug on the Hydrant Gate has been resolved.
Beta Versions have been sent to the volunteers on Thursday (01-Sep-2022).
I am still looking for more testing volunteers to help test the update.
If you would like to help with the testing efforts please send an IM to Lares Carter

26-Aug-2022

General

There will be no HD News Meeting next Friday (02-Sep-2022) as I am unavailable.

Foam Eductor Beta Testing

The Beta Testing did discover a couple of bugs and issues. Most of them edge cases.
They all have to do with the Hose System and how it handles connections.
It took me some time to track down all of the issues. But I got a new beta version ready for testing.
A copy will be sent today to everyone who has volunteered to help with testing. Thank you!

Hopefully no more bugs with show up with this new version.
The release date will depend on how the testing goes.
If you would like to help with the testing efforts please send an IM to Lares Carter

Legacy Pump HUD Development

I got a lot more of the scripting done on the Pump HUD.
All of the 3D model, texture and UV mapping changes for readability are done and integrated.

There are 3 things to get done for every control element on the HUD:
1) sync with the pump panel when the HUD loads
2) send control input from the HUD to the Legacy Pumper
3) status updates from the Legacy Pumper to the HUD every time something changes
I got all 3 of those things done for every single control element on the HUD. That was a bunch of work.

The Deckgun controls for the Stream/Fog setting did not work out as single button and have been split into two smaller buttons again.
I have been able to script and test the Foam Jug Level Indiciator on the Foam Refill tab and it's working great.

The only thing missing now for the HUD scripts are some status dependent updates for some of the controls so that it matches the Legacy Pumper.
One example for that is that the individual discharge GPM readouts only light up if there is power and the Pump Power Shift lever is set to 'Pump'.
Another example are the Water and Foam Level only turning on if the battery master switch is set to 'On' - all of those small dependencies.
Those additional changes shouldn't take too long. I should be able to get that all done this upcoming week and hopefully we can start beta testing.

The HUD Beta will go to internal testing first to find the rough issues.
Once it is somewhat stable then it will move on to the volunteers.
Starting with a smaller group and then increasing and going to all volunteers.
Similar to the last update beta testing if you want to be included with the first broken volunteer version just send me an IM.

Hydrant CE Bugfixes

I've been pretty busy with the work on the Pump HUD.
I had some time to look into a new bug report on the Hydrant CE but was unable to reproduce it.
I also need to check on one more possible bug with the Hydrant Gate.
Once that is done I'll start sending out beta versions to those who volunteered for the testing.
I am still looking for more testing volunteers to help test the update.
If you would like to help with the testing efforts please send an IM to Lares Carter

19-Aug-2022

- no in-world meeting as Lares is unavailable
- Foam Eductor Beta Testing has revealed some bugs, still working on fixing those
- Legacy Pump HUD scripting is coming along great

12-Aug-2022

Foam Eductor Beta Testing

I sent a couple of copies out to those that volunteered for the testing shortly before the meeting.
There has been a lot of internal testing previously. So it should be pretty stable overall.
But you always got the odd bugs showing up every now and then.
Release date will depend on how the testing goes.
If you would like to help with the testing efforts please send an IM to Lares Carter

Legacy Pump HUD Development

I have spent a lot of time this week on making the preview pictures that were shown last meeting into an actual HUD.
I had all of the 3D modeling and UV mapping done but then decided to do a couple of changes to improve readability.
So I'll need to edit and re-upload a couple of things. The basics of the scripting are working.
There is just a lot more work left to write up all of the communication back and forth between the HUD and the Pumper to update each control element.
I have been able to test the idea of having the discharge controls on the HUD auto-hide if no hose is connected.
It's working great and makes the HUD a lot less cluttered.

Hydrant CE Bugfixes

No additional bugs have been reported on the Hydrant CE.
Though I am still looking for more testing volunteers to help test the update.
If you would like to help with the testing efforts please send an IM to Lares Carter

Titanium Series & NextGen Series Update

I got a small bugfix scheduled for the Titanium and NextGen Series to fix an issue with the pump script and the foam injection status.
On the Titanium 6000A there's also an issue with the hose reel color on the passenger side.
I am not aware of any other bugs with either the Titanium or NextGen Series.
If you know about any bugs or issues please file a Bug Report
The update should be ready together with the Foam Eductor release as the eductor won't work right otherwise.

05-Aug-2022

Legacy Pumper Update

The update got released on 01-Aug-2022.
The main changes are the fully functional foam system, refill towers, new drafting rules and Script API improvements.
The changelog is available here.
The updated manual is available here.
Details about the new drafting can be found here.
And Details about the Foam System and how to use the Foam Refill Panel are available here.

Fire System Update

The HD Fire System also received an update on 01-Aug-2022.
This adds the new foam sources to the delivery box.
They are available as a shelf with 6 jugs, a pallet with 24 jugs and groups of 2,3 and 4 jugs. All of those except the shelf are modify enabled.

There is one known error:
the groups of jugs are limited to the owner only. A fix for that is pending. I am just waiting to see if any other bug reports show up.

The update also has a couple of changes and new features for the Fire.
The Damage API, Score API, Hotspots, Adverse Reaction, Explode, Location Setting and Fanning features.
There are also some improvements for the existing Fire Script API.
And the range of the fans has been increased and improved. The change is only required for the fire, it works with the existing fans.

I also made some tweaks to the way the fire grows and shrinks when extinguished.
Previously the rate was linear. With the new change it's dynamic.
Once the fire reaches a certain size it'll slow down its growth rate.
And very large fires take longer to shrink.

More details about the fire changes are available here.

Gear HUD Update

The Gear HUD also got updated on 01-Aug-2022.
The update adds the new Foam Jugs and Foam Refill Hose equipment to the HUD.
It also has a couple of bugfixes for the Hose Lines.
As well as preparation work to make the Attack Lines compatible with the upcoming Foam Eductor.

I also added some new context menu buttons. And used the opportunity to update the Gear HUD textures and design.
Currently the new context menu buttons are only available for the Foam Jugs and Hose Lines.
In the future they'll also be available for more of the other equipment in the HUD.

The two main bugfixes I'd like to highlight are for the Hose Lines:
1) the visible gaps in the connection pieces for the hoses got fixed. That issue showed up with the release of the Skid Unit.
2) the manual and automatic hose shortening feature is working again for the Attack Lines. That one got broken when the Hose Line Drop Feature was added.

There is currently one known bug in the Gear HUD: using the 'Dialog' option for the interaction feature gives script errors for some of the features on the Hydrant CE.
A fix for that is pending. I am also just waiting to see if any other issues show up for the Gear HUD.

One Series Update

The One Series: Engine 1, Tanker 1, Aerial 1 and Midmount 1 also received an update on 01-Aug-2022.
This adds the foam jugs to them in preparation for the upcoming Foam Eductor.
It also adds all of the Script API changes from the Legacy Pumper Update.
And fixes a bug with the Fire Extinguisher not being restored with the Restock feature on some of the vehicles.

Changelogs are available here:
Engine 1
Tanker 1
Aerial 1
Midmount 1

Foam Eductor Beta Testing

The Foam Eductor beta versions will go out pretty soon.
I am still looking for more volunteers for the beta testing.
If you're good with testing and writing reports and got some time available to help out please let me know via IM.

Legacy Pump HUD Preview

With all of the updates finally released I moved on to working on the next update for the Legacy Pumper: Modular HUD Support for the Pump Panel.
Please keep in mind that this is still a work in progress. Things are not final yet.
So far it's all just texture work, nothing is scripted yet.
I just need to figure out the layout first before making it all functional.

Preview Picture 1 - Pump HUD Wide

HD Legacy Pump HUD Preview 1
HD Legacy Pump HUD Preview 1 (taken on 05-Aug-2022; work in progress)

It uses the same graphics as the Drive tab on the Modular HUD for the Legacy Pumper.
On the left we got the small sidebar with the 4 buttons similar to the Drive tab.
On the bottom we got tabs to bring up additional controls: Info Center,

And then on the main area from left to right:
- a group of 3 buttons for the Tank Fill Valve, Tank to Pump Valve and to Reset the Pump Safety Shutoff
- GPM readouts for the master intake and discharge
- current drafting GPM readout with controls to increase and decrease the suction and a yellow Prime button
- status lights for Pump Engaged Status and the Safety Shutoff
- Water and Foam tank fill levels
- group of 3 buttons for the panel light, gauge backlights and the airhorn
- individual discharge controllers, for each of those from top to bottom:
- GPM display
- small horizontal stripe that will match the colored ring on the pump panel
- buttons for the increase, toggle and decrease GPM functions
- strip of 11 status lights for the valve position (can be clicked to quickly set the outgoing GPM)
- label for the discharge
- the last discharge is for the Deckgun with the deckgun controls next to it
- the Stow / Deploy button is currently missing
The Legacy Pumper has a lot more discharges than any of the other HD Trucks which makes the HUD very wide.
One idea I've had to improve that is to automatically hide the discharge controls for any connection that does not have a hose attached to it.

Preview Picture 2 - Pump HUD Compact

HD Legacy Pump HUD Preview 2
HD Legacy Pump HUD Preview 2 (taken on 05-Aug-2022; work in progress)

The preview above assumes that only the Crosslay 1 is deployed. The other discharge controls are hidden.
The tabs on the bottom are all active to show the extra controls:
- the 'Info Center' which matches the two status text displays on the Pump Panel
- the 'Pump Limit' which will bring up the Pump Limit gauge
- the 'Foam Inject' controls for the foam injection system
- the 'Foam Refill' controls for refilling the foam cell with the foam jugs
All of those match the way it's set up on the actual Pump Panel pretty closely.
For the Foam Refill I've included an indicator that would show the fill level of the Foam Jug that's currently in use.
That's just an idea. I'd still have to check the script side to make sure that would work properly.

Preview Picture 3 - Pump HUD Small

HD Legacy Pump HUD Preview 3
HD Legacy Pump HUD Preview 3 (taken on 05-Aug-2022; work in progress)

The last preview picture shows the smallest possible setup.
This makes sure that the HUD does not break with the minimal possible feature setup for a compatible vehicle.
Assuming no hose lines are connected, no deckgun is installed and there is no foam system either.

Hydrant CE Bugfixes

I've also started work on an update for the Hydrant CE.
The main focus for the update are bugfixes.

There are three bugs I know about:
1) the shutoff valve cover is not set to physics shape 'None' which makes it act as direct part of the hydrant
if you drive over it fast enough it can act similar to driving into the hydrant itself and will crash it
- bugfix enforces physics shape none on every linkset change

2) repeat connections to the same discharge fail to supply water
- bugfix corrects missing GPM updates

3) if someone drives into the hydrant while the owner of the hydrant is offline and the owner does not have offline rez permissions for the parcel
then it gets the hydrant stuck as it is waiting forever for the rez of the crashed hydrant copy to complete
- added a 5 second timeout for the rezzing to finish
- if it fails to rez then the hydrant will restore itself to none-crashed state on the next click interaction
- if it was a very slow rez and the crashed copy does eventually decide to show up then it will attempt to auto-delete it

If you know about any other bugs with the Hydrant CE please let me know via IM as soon as possible so that a fix can be included in the update.
I am also looking for volunteer testers for the update to make sure all of those fixes work properly.

29-Jul-2022

Legacy Pumper

Everything looks pretty stable on the beta.

There has only been one change:
Electric Charging System was added as blocking condition for the Script-API SET POS / ROT commands.
Exhaust Removal System was added as blocking condition for the Script-API SET POS / ROT commands.

If nothing unexpectedly blows up then the update should go out this Monday, 01-Aug-2022.

Update has been released on 01-Aug-2022.

Foam Eductor

The texture work for the foam injection percentage selection dial has been finished.
There were a couple more bugs discovered on the Foam Eductor. I got all of those fixed.
I've added an Access Menu to it so it can be set to Owner Only, Group or Anyone Access.
It now also has a color menu with 8 choices: Red, Green, Blue, White, Black, Gray, Orange and Yellow.
I'll send out a couple of beta versions within the next days.
I am also looking for some volunteers: If you got a lot of free time and are good with testing and filing bug reports send me an IM.

Foam Jug Pallet

There was a lot of interest in having the Pallet with the Foam Jugs modify enabled in order to do all kinds of interesting things with it.
I made a proof of concept a while ago with some black magic to make it a single object. Which makes it a lot easier to handle and link.
Now I also finished the script side of it. It seems to be working alright. There are a couple more tweaks required to improve it.
It'll be available as part of the Fire System Update that adds the other foam jug sources to the Fire System Box.

Foam Jug Pallet has been released as part of the Fire System Update on 01-Aug-2022.

One Series

An update for the One Series was talked about quite a while ago when the Foam Eductor and new Foam Jugs were first shown.
It's a small update for the One Series that adds two of the new Foam Jugs to each of the vehicles.
For most of the vehicles the Jugs will go on top of the pump panel on the the passenger side.
For Midmount 1 I removed one of the binding agent buckets to make enough space.

There are also some minor bugfixes included:
On Engine 1 and Aerial 1 the Restock button fails to replace the Fire Extinguishers.

The update will also add the Script-API changes to the One Series:
The SET POS / ROT commands will check for connected Hose Lines, Exhaust Removal System and Electric Charging System before moving the vehicle.
And the new GET STATUS command got added to get information about the parking brake, pump power shift and if hose lines are connected.

One Series Update has been released on 01-Aug-2022.

Fire System

No more issues showed up with the updated Fire.
I am just working on finishing the Foam Pallet script changes and writing up all the documentation.
If everything goes according to plan then it should be available together with the Legacy Pumper Update on Monday, 01-Aug-2022.
It'll include the new Script-API commands for the Fire.
The improved range for the Fans.
The growth speed and extinguishing speed changes for the Fire.

And the new Fire Features:
Damage API: custom API message on avatar collision which can be used with 3rd party Health HUDs
Score API: API message when bullet collides with fire which can be used to award points for fighting fires
Hotspots: extinguished fires have chance to randomly reignite if lingering smoke is not cleared
Adverse Reaction: putting Water on Fire that does not accept Water will make it grow
Explosion: will rez several child fires
Location Setting: Interior vs Exterior Fires with different behavior
Fanning Feature: Fans will make active Fires grow

Fire System Update has been released on 01-Aug-2022.

Gear HUD

No more issues with the Gear HUD Update either. Should release together with the rest on Monday, 01-Aug-2022.
It has the updated Gear HUD textures with the redesign.
The new buttons: Put Back, Discard, Disconnect and Restock.
The new Categories: Couplers and Options.
The Foam Refill Hose and new Foam Jug got added.
And all of the bugfixes for Hose Lines.
The two main bugfixes are the hose shortening feature working again and the visual gaps being fixed on the connection pieces.

Gear HUD Update has been released on 01-Aug-2022.

Product Version Overview

There was a suggestion submitted to have a centralized place to check version numbers in order to check if your vehicles and equipment is up to date.
I think that's a pretty great idea. I merged the information with the Vehicle Dimension Information Page.

The first draft for the new Overview Page is accessible here.

It lists the versions for pretty much everything there is. If you notice something missing please let me know.
I am still working on making it look a bit nicer and easier to read.
For the vehicles it also has the dimensions listed.
And for everything it links to the manuals and marketplace listing if available.

- additional copies will be sent to all of the volunteers within the next couple of days
- timeline for the public release of the update will depend on the testing results this upcoming week

Fire Update

- on Thursday I found some time in between all the bugfixing to have another look at a couple of updates for the HD Fire
- I have had those ideas and new features on my list for quite some time and am excited to make them available
- the main roadblock towards adding more features for the fire was that it reached the memory limit for scripts in SL
- this was resolved by splitting the fire script into two separate scripts: one for the fire itself and one for the dialog menus
- the menu script is only active while the menu is open, otherwise it is set to not running to save on performance
- there are 6 changes for the fire:

1) Some new Script API commands

2) Damage API
- allows to setup a channel and command for avatar damage to be used with Health HUDs
- command is sent on avatar collision with the fire
- command supports placeholders for Avatar-UUID, Owner-UUID, Object-UUID, Avatar-Name, Owner-Name and Object-Name
- this should allow to add compatibility with most existing HUDs out there as long as you know the channel and required command

3) Adverse Option
- if active and Fire is set to not accept Water Bullets then Water Bullets will cause the fire to grow
- it's not perfect but at least something to simulate oil fires

4) Explode Option
- will rez up to 5 child fires (depending on how many child fires are available)

5) Location Option
- can be set to Interior or Exterior or Auto-Detect
- Auto-Detect will use an upward raycast to determine if the fire is under open sky and set to Interior or Exterior respectively

- Interior:
- Child Fires are rezzed in a cluster within a set radius in random directions
- thick lingering smoke particles to obscure vision
- after fire is extinguished lingering smoke will only clear slowly on its own

- Exterior:
- Child Fires are rezzed in a line based on wind direction
- less dense smoke particles
- after fire is extinguished lingering smoke will clear much faster on its own

6) increased Fan Range
- HD Fans will have increased range to clear lingering smoke
- smooth and dynamic decrease in effectiveness at max range instead of hard cutoff
- no update required for HD Fans, solely determined by HD Fire

20-May-2022

- work continues on the Legacy Pumper Update
- the very first beta version was sent out today
- a couple of bugs have already been reported
- more copies will be sent to the Internal Testers and Legacy Pumper testing volunteers once those bugs have been fixed
- the server will automatically send out copies based on number of bugs reported in the past
- if you own a copy of the Legacy Pumper and would like an early copy of the beta then you can send an IM to Lares Carter
- just be aware that it will most likely be very broken and should not be used for active service
- hose connections will only work for those who are part of the beta as it requires an updated copy of the Gear HUD

- Main Changes:
- adjustable foam injection rate
- working refill towers
- working foam refill panel
- new foam jugs
- new drafting rules for suction hoses
- lots of scripts changes and optimizations

13-May-2022

- no in-world meeting as Lares is unavailable
- still working on the Legacy Pumper update
- work is coming along great
- I expect to send out the first beta version to the internal testers this upcoming week

06-May-2022

- still working on the Legacy Pumper update
- some unexpected delays due to the memory limits for scripts in SL
- took the opportunity to reorganize the pumping scripts from the ground up

- the new scripts will have 3 benefits:
- better debugging tools to provide more stable scripts
- will make work on additional features and future vehicles a lot easier
- groundwork for making the Legacy Pumper modify compatible once the Early Access is over

- work on matching the existing features is almost complete
- includes the adjustable Foam Injection Rate (see 22-Apr-2022 notes)
- includes working refill towers for HD Refill Pipe
- includes the new Drafting / Suction Hose rules

- more details about the way the Pull to Prime handle will work:
- need to pull handle to establish suction
- pull time will depend on the suction hose setup
- if initial strain is too high then suction can not be established
- adding or removing a hose to an intake will stop the suction
- drafting from a drop tank that is running dry will stop the suction
- pump safety shutdown will stop the suction

29-Apr-2022

- no in-world meeting as Lares is unavailable
- still working on the Legacy Pumper update
- a lot more work than anticipated but progress has been good this past week
- more detailed status update and demonstration will be available at HD News Meeting on 06-May-2022

22-Apr-2022

Legacy Pumper

- the next update is still in development
- internal beta testing has been delayed due to problems with the adjustable foam system

- the update will contain the following:
- the adjustable rate will discharge foam as indicated on the foam specification plaque
- 0.3% up to 1.5% will discharge Wetting Agent: Water Bullets with increased efficiency
- 2.0% up to 6.0% will discharge Foam Agent: Foam Bullets with varying efficency
- 3.0% injection rate is the same as the Foam System on the NextGen Series and the Titanium Series
- further adjustments will be made based on the testing performance
- due to those changes only updated Attack Lines will work with the Legacy Pumper

- the Foam Containers will be updated to the new Foam Jugs
- the two jugs from the rear compartment of the Legacy Pumper will be available
- any of the older foam sources like the Foam Cabinet and NextGen Foam Unit will distribute the new jugs
- the old Cabinet will be replaced with the Foam Delivery Pallet

- refill towers on the Legacy Pumper will be fully compatible with the HD Refill Pipes
- the Foam Refill panel on the Legacy Pumper is still in development

- Pull to Prime handle will be added to the Legacy Pumper pump panel for the new and improved Drafting System
- the new system will have a penalty for using the front or rear intakes for Drafting Operations due to plumbing friction losses
- drafting from a water source with a lower elevation will decrease the available drafting GPM
- drafting across a longer distance will further decrease the GPM
- using more than two Suction Hose connections will have diminishing returns

15-Apr-2022

- no in-world meeting as Lares is unavailable

08-Apr-2022

Legacy Pumper

The next update for the Legacy Pumper is in development.

The main focus is the full Foam System:
- adjustable Foam Injection rate according to specification plaque
- can use INC and DEC buttons to adjust injection rate
- new Mesh foam jugs with more details used for refills
- delivery pallet with several foam jugs for restocking
- foam refill on pump panel with hose and wand

I am also working on additional features:
- working refill towers compatible with refill pipe
- improved drafting mechanics and logic
- drafting will require to prime the pump
- removing or adding hose connections after will require to re-prime the pump
- front and rear intakes will decrease drafting amount due to plumbing friction losses
- distance between drafting source and pump will add friction losses
- elevation of drafting source compared to pump will affect drafting GPM
- additional connected suction hoses will decrease drafting GPM
- pump limit will also affect the amount of drafted water

Initial limited beta version should be available this upcoming week.
Beta Testing will then extend to all volunteers based on testing results.

Wall Intakes

- allows you to connect a small or large Supply Line and pump water to them
- the intake does not actually send water to the Pipe Outlets, it is for roleplay purposes only
- useful to simulate a standpipe system

Questions & Answers

Q: Will the Skid Unit come with a Foam Injection System?
A: Currently it does not. I have added a note to the ideas list.

Q: Will you add modify permissions to the NextGen Series?
A: There are two main problems that would make this a complex and time consuming project:
1) the NextGen vehicles use regular prims and sculpted prims and their land impact relies on that
adding Mesh Items, materials, alpha masking or the new physics shape options will almost double their Land Impact
2) none of the existing scripts were made with changing linksets in mind
making them fully modify compatible would require re-scripting all of the vehicles
My current priority is to invest my time into finishing the Skid Unit and Legacy Pumper.
